Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) – 2026–2027 Season

Helping Keep the Wave Safe

The Port Colborne Wave is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all players and families. As part of Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) requirements, many volunteers and team officials are required to complete screening and Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSCs) before participating in association activities.

This page is designed to help guide you through the process for the 2026–2027 season.


Who Needs to Be Screened?

The following individuals are required to complete the OWHA screening process:

  • Coaches
  • Assistant Coaches
  • Trainers
  • Team Managers
  • On-Ice Volunteers
  • Officials Instructors
  • Skills Coaches
  • Dressing Room Supervisors
  • Team Personnel interacting with players
  • Executive Members

If you are unsure whether screening is required for your role, please contact the association before participating in any team activities.

2026–2027 Screening Process

If Your VSC is From 2023

You will be required to:

  • Obtain a NEW Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Complete a new OWHA Screening Declaration
  • Submit all required documents through the OHF Screening Submission Portal

If Your VSC is From 2024 or 2025

You are only required to submit:

  • An OWHA Screening Declaration

If You Are a New Volunteer

You must:

  • Obtain a Vulnerable Sector Check through your local police service
  • Complete the required OWHA screening forms
  • Upload all documents to the OHF Screening Submission Portal

Important Dates & Deadlines

April 1

Team officials may begin submitting screening documents for the upcoming season.

April 1 – July 31

Returning volunteers with valid VSCs must submit their Screening Declaration.

August 1

Team officials who have not completed the required screening process may not participate in team activities until approved.

Please complete your screening as early as possible to avoid delays before the season begins.


How to Get Your Vulnerable Sector Check

  1. Visit your local police service website
  2. Request a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
  3. Complete the required identification process
  4. Wait for your completed document to be issued
  5. Upload your documentation to the OHF Screening Submission Portal

Please note:

  • Processing times vary by police service
  • Some police services require appointments
  • Incomplete applications may delay approval

How to Submit Your Documents

Once your documents are ready:

  1. Visit the OHF Screening Submission Portal
  2. Upload your completed VSC (if required)
  3. Upload your Screening Declaration
  4. Confirm all information is accurate before submitting

Only approved individuals may participate in sanctioned team activities.
