Sr. Rec House League Hockey Rules 🍻🏒
Season 2023-24
Hey ladies, welcome to the chillest hockey league ever! All skill levels are welcome—our motto is fun, friendship, and no funny business (like checking!).
Safety First, Always 🙌
- Neck guards are a must-have (it's an OWHA insurance thing).
- Wanna rock a mouthguard? Go for it, but it's optional.
The Game ??
- We do 3 periods: 10, 10, and 12 minutes, running time. There's a curfew, so keep it snappy!
- Warm-ups start the moment those Zamboni doors shut. 3 minutes, let's go!
Puck & Ref Duty 🏒
- Bring warm-up pucks for your team.
- Home team, it's on you to hand over two game pucks to the refs.
Roster Juggling 🤹
- Need more peeps? Borrow up to 3 players to get to 10 skaters and a goalie.
- You can snag players from another Sr. league team or even a U22 team, just don't make it unfair.
- Note the pickup players as "PU" on the game sheet and tell everyone.
Rule Alerts 🚨
- Absolutely no body checking.
- Check out all OWHA rules here.
- Slap shots and fakes are a no-go. Stick above the knee = 2-min penalty.
- No goalie? Use 6 skaters. If you've got a makeshift goalie with gear, they get full goalie rights.
Forfeit & Fines 🙁
- Got less than 5 players? You'll forfeit and owe a $100 fine for the next game.
- Weather is the only get-out-of-jail-free card for cancellations.
Penalties 😤
- 3 Penalty Rule: Third time's NOT a charm. Get 3 penalties and you're out of the game.
- Major 5-min penalties mean you're out and there might be further punishment.
- Any harassment of players or refs? You're getting reported.
Suspensions & Bans 🚫
- Suspended? Can't play or be picked up until you're cleared.
- Three strikes (ejections or misconducts) and you're out for the season.
Admin Stuff 📋
- Send game info and any penalties to OWHA and your reps.
- Captains, keep your team updated on game changes.
Bench Staff & Insurance 🤓
- Someone on the team should be a certified trainer. Find more info here.
- All bench staff must be 19+ for insurance reasons.
